All About Kids Launches Exciting Homeschool Enrichment Program for K–5 Students

Looking for a way to enrich your elementary student’s learning with hands-on activities, social connection, and teacher-led classes? All About Kids Academy, a trusted local childcare facility, has launched an exciting new Homeschool Enrichment Program just in time for the 2025–26 school year! Starting the first week of September and following the traditional academic calendar, the electives offer a dynamic mix of STEM exploration, creative art projects, and health-focused classes, including high-energy fitness and cooking. I sat down with Danielle Meyer at All About Kids to learn more about her vision, what families can expect, and how this program supports homeschoolers with engaging, real-world learning experiences.

Tell me about your journey from childcare to homeschooling.

I’ve been a part of All About Kids (AAK) since 2009 and have loved every minute of it. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and have loved teaching at the center over the last several years. We are a family-owned, Christian childcare center and have served families in our community for more than 25 years. We watch kids from 18 months to 5 years old.

In January 2025 we began brainstorming about opening a homeschool enrichment program for homeschoolers in our area. My husband and I made the decision to start homeschooling in 2021 and I began looking for programs within a 20 - 30 mile radius for my daughter to attend. I came up with very few options, and that’s how the idea for the enrichment program came to be. Ms. Julie, my co- teacher at AAK, will be tag-teaming with me as well so we’ll have two teachers available for school-age students. I’m genuinely excited to meet more homeschool families in our area!

What kind of enrichment classes will you be offering?

To kick off our fall session, which will run September through October, we’ll be offering nature studies, upcycled art classes, cooking, STEM labs and a high-energy fitness. We plan to rotate electives every couple of months and are looking forward to gathering feedback from parents and students that will inspire new, interest-led programs.

Science can be a roadblock for some home educators, tell us more!

I really enjoy science, and I purposely took Marine Biology in high school just to do dissections, that part of the class was my favorite. Two science electives that I’m excited to start out with at our center are Nature Studies and STEM Lab Explorers.

For Nature Studies we’re going to be learning about the local wildlife, trees, seasons and ecosystems. We have local parks and the Fox River nearby, plus different trails we can hike. We will log our findings in our nature notebooks, and spend as much time outdoors as possible.

The STEM Lab Explorers class is going to vary from season to season but students will develop problem-solving skills through science, engineering, and creative challenges. Slime, coding, LEGO builds and paper airplane challenges are a few of the things I’m looking forward to offering.

What have you got planned for art?

Oh my gosh! I've been gathering recyclables for months for our makerspace and I hope our students love it as much as I do! This hands-on elective is going to encourage creativity through sustainability by turning discarded materials into creative masterpieces. Some crafts I have planned are leaf rubbings, coffee filter creations, paper mache, kaleidoscopes, and so much more.

Cooking? How much can you really do with K-5 students?

My husband and I are somewhat competitive when it comes to cooking. Actually that’s an understatement – but our daughters have been getting in on the action from the very beginning!

They assist us in most meal prep at home, which I want to mirror in our class. The class will focus on basic chopping, dicing, sauteing and baking. Also, teaching measurements, and temperature as well. I love Fall in Wisconsin so I am doing all-things-apples! Baked apples, apple cheddar muffins, apple dips and homemade bread & butter just to name a few.

Do the classes build on each other?

Nope! We know how much homeschool families value their flexibility! Classes will be standalone so that students and home-educators can pick and choose the options that their students are interested in or where they feel they need some help filling in a gap. Maybe it’s art one week and science the next! However, families can receive a discount when they choose to take an elective for the entire two month session. Each elective will typically have 4 classes that align to an overall theme, with the exception of the fitness class.

Do guardians have to stay, help, or teach?

All About Kids is a licensed childcare provider so the short answer is NO! We wanted to provide an educational enrichment option so that fellow home-educators could get some respite care. These moms and dads love being around their kids, they wouldn’t choose homeschooling if they didn’t! With that being said, homeschooling is a marathon so our main goal is to provide a fun, safe environment for the kids to attend while giving mom & dad an opportunity to do a grocery run, attend appointments, or visit a coffee shop.

Are there any fun facts we should know about you?

Ha! Yes!

  • I am a mom to three little girls.

  • I love baking, and creating delicious sourdough creations.

  • I cook competitively with my husband in my free time.

  • I love taking vacations, cruising is my all time favorite!

  • I LOVE reading, doesn’t matter the genre, fiction, nonfiction, you name it, I will read it.

Finally, when and how do families register?

Families can register year round. We have all the resources needed to register on our website, or they can call or email us for more information. As mentioned before we will offer 4 classes for each elective throughout the week. We have two hour or one hour sessions, so parents can have flexibility with their kids' enrollment.

Note: Please note that All About Kids Academy’s homeschool enrichment classes are not the same as enrollment in a private or charter school. Classes are designed to supplement a homeschool curriculum and do not constitute full-time instruction or meet the requirements of a Wisconsin home-based education. Parents or guardians remain the primary educators and are responsible for ensuring compliance with local homeschooling laws and educational standards.
